Staff Pose

Sanskrit Name: Dandasana

Staff Pose

Challenge Level: Easy

Staff pose is the foundational posture for many seated yoga poses. It is a seated posture with the legs outstretched in front of the body and the spine long and vertically aligned. The palms touch the floor beside the hips (or the fingertips can be used if the palms do not reach). Although staff pose looks relatively simple, it requires enough flexibility in the hamstrings and back of the body for the torso to make right angles with the legs. It also requires a strong core to hold the body upright, so it is considered a good posture for building inner strength.

Seated Yoga Poses

Seated positions calm the mind and encourage concentration. These are the best postures for practicing breathing techniques, meditation and stillness. When combined with twists or stretches, these poses release muscular knots, improving the flow of energy in the body.

Core Yoga Poses

In yoga, core stability is key for proper alignment and balance in asana practice. Engage in your abdominal muscles with core yoga poses to help build a strong and stable core. Doing so will help prevent injury, speed rehabilitation and improve performance in all types of sports.
